Bacon Subscription: How Ours Works and Who It Is For

Our bacon subscription sends a box of thick cut, applewood smoked Heritage Duroc bacon to your door every month or every three months, frozen and packed in dry ice. You pick the pack count and the schedule at checkout, and the same bacon from the same family farms shows up on time.

Ready to sign up? The options are on the bacon subscription product page. Below is exactly how it works and who it makes sense for, if you want the details first.

How our bacon subscription works

The bacon is our America’s Best Uncured Bacon, the same thick cut bacon we sell by the box. It is made from Heritage Duroc pork raised crate free on family farms, with no antibiotics ever, on a vegetarian diet. The cure is water, salt, turbinado sugar, and celery powder, and every slice is slow smoked over real applewood.

You choose two things on the product page: how many 2.25 lb packs come in each box, and how often a box ships. Then you check out once. Each renewal is charged and shipped on that schedule.

Renewals follow the schedule you picked at checkout. Your order history and tracking are under My Account on this site.

Pack sizes and schedules

Each pack is 2.25 pounds of thick cut bacon. That is a lot of bacon, so think about freezer space and how often you actually cook it before you pick a box.

BoxBacon per boxMonthlyQuarterly
3 packs6.75 lbAbout 1.5 lb a weekAbout 0.5 lb a week
6 packs13.5 lbAbout 3 lb a weekAbout 1 lb a week

A simple way to choose: count the packs you opened last month. One or two a month is the 3 pack box every quarter. A pack a week is the 3 pack box every month.

The 6 pack boxes are for people who share, host, or keep a second freezer. If you are not sure, start small. The next order is on a schedule, so running low is not a problem.

USDA lists opened bacon at 7 days in the fridge and 4 months in the freezer, so a quarterly box is well inside that window. A quarterly box of 3 packs works out to one pack a month, an easy rhythm to keep.

How each subscription box ships

Every box ships frozen, packed with dry ice, by FedEx. Orders placed Tuesday through Friday arrive the following Friday, Saturday, or Sunday. You get a tracking email the day the box leaves.

No signature is needed. The driver leaves the box at the door. Move the packs to the freezer the same day, as the USDA guide to mail order food safety advises for any frozen food shipment.

Two limits, the same as every order: no PO boxes, and no shipping outside the United States. Holiday weeks can shift the schedule, and our shipping page lists the weeks affected.

If a renewal would land during a holiday week, the shipping page is the place to check. It is updated before each holiday, and it names the weeks that move.

Is a bacon subscription worth it?

It depends on how you buy bacon now, how much freezer room you have, and whether you care about the pork behind the slice. Here is a plain way to decide.

  • You already order from us more than twice a year. A subscription saves you the reordering and the “we’re out” mornings. Worth it.
  • You buy whatever bacon is on sale at the store. A subscription is a step up in pork and in price. Try one box first, then decide.
  • You want to give bacon as a gift that keeps arriving. Ship it to their address. See our guide to bacon gift box ideas for the one time options too.
  • Your freezer is already full. Pick quarterly, or buy by the box instead.

What you are paying for is the pork, not the box. Heritage Duroc raised the slow way costs more than commodity pork, and that is true whether you subscribe or not. Our artisanal bacon guide explains what that difference tastes like.

Questions people ask about bacon subscriptions

Which bacon subscription service is the best?

Judge any bacon club on four things: the pork (breed and how it was raised), the smoke (real wood or liquid), the ingredient list, and the shipping (frozen with dry ice or not). Ours is Heritage Duroc, applewood, four cure ingredients, and dry ice.

How much does a package of bacon cost?

Prices change, so we do not print them here. The current price per box is on the subscription product page, next to the pack and schedule options.

Are food subscriptions cheaper than groceries?

Not usually, and ours is not meant to be. Store bacon from commodity pork usually costs less. A subscription buys you heritage pork on a schedule, not a discount on the same product.

Can I send the subscription to someone else?

Yes. Choose ship to a different address at checkout and enter theirs. There is a gift message field too, up to 120 characters.

Never run out again. A bacon subscription is the simplest way to keep Heritage Duroc bacon in the freezer without thinking about it. Pick your packs, pick your schedule, and the farm does the rest.
